Community Planting Day in June

Brookfield Vale are organising a Community Planting Day on Sunday, 12th June, at  the
corner of Torres Parade and Argent Street in Aveley.  The day will start at 10:00am, and finish up around 12:30pm with a free sausage sizzle for all volunteers.


The aim is to revegetate a small patch of bare ground adjacent to bushland.  Revegetation helps to conserve existing biodiversity.  This is a good chance to learn more about local bushland and the plant species that grow there, as well as get some experience in hands-on bushland stewardship.  Feel free to ask lots of questions.  It's also a great opportunity to meet your neighbours!

As we will be working outside in the sun, around scratchy bushland plants, please wear protective clothing and footwear - long pants, long-sleeved shirt and sturdy closed shoes or boots with long socks.  Gardening gloves, a hat and sunscreen might be useful too.  Please bring a bottle of drinking water for yourself. 

All planting equipment and plants will be provided.

Celebrate the arrival of spring - Wildflower Photography Safari

Spring is just around the corner and we'll soon be heading off into the bush to capture some of our stunning wildflowers on camera.  Here are the details:

Wildflower Photography Safari

When:  Sunday 12th September

Where: meet at 8:30 am at The Grapevine carpark, Brookmount Drive, Charlotte's Vineyard

What to bring: camera, macro lens if you have one, water bottle, notepad

What to wear: sturdy boots or shoes, long socks, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, hat

Please leave pets at home, as we will be going into a nature reserve.

Beginning bushwalkers are welcome!  The walk will be guided by experienced local biologists and nature photographers, who know the local bushland because they've walked in it so often.

We hope to find the elusive orchids, triggerplants and sundews, which are only visible during certain times of the year.

Ellenbrook has many species of these plants in local bushland.  There will be lots of other flowers as well, such as cottonheads, (Conostylis), Hibbertia, myrtles (Hypocalymma), acacia and maybe some native flags (Patersonia occidentalis).  

Our next bushwalk - 6th December

The Ellenbrook Bushland Group, in association with the City of Swan, is going for a bushwalk, and you're invited to come with us.

We will meet at The Grapevine - 1 Brookmount Drive, Charlotte's Vineyard at 8am on Sunday 6/12/09.   The aim is to introduce Ellenbrook residents to the wonders of our beautiful bushland - the trees, birds, wildflowers, lizards and insects.  The walk will be guided by experts on our indigenous fauna and flora, and is designed for people who are new to bushwalking.

You will need to wear sturdy shoes or boots, long-sleeved shirt and long pants, and a broad-brimmed hat.  The UV index will probably be 12 (Extreme), so you might like to wear sunscreen as well.  Please bring your water bottle - there are no drinking fountains in the bush!  And bring a camera if you're into photography.  (Please don't bring pets.)
